STUDYING IN LONDON

Are you a hard working, partying and independent student?

Work

Nightlife
In London you have one of the most known club worldwide. It is called Stringfellows. This club is chic but quite expensive. It is huge and there are spectacular lightshows. There are different bars and you can also have dinner in there. Most of the chic clubs are only accessible for members of the club, for example, Annabel’s. But you can only become a member if you are introduced by other members and the waiting lists are very long. Soho is certainly the best place to go out. Soho had a reputation for sex shops as well as night life and film industry for most of the time in the 20th century, but since the early 1980’s this district changed and became a fashionable district with upmarket restaurants and media offices with only a small remnant of the sex industry that has been there before. Soho is an area for both rich and poor and it has a lot of clubs. The soho weekends are very busy and the clubs are full of students. Leicester square, a very popular place to go out, is also close to Soho.Clubs in Leicester Square are always busy and always packed with party animals looking for a big night out in London. Being one of the most lively night spots in London, you can expect to find plenty clubs. The only streets between Leicester square and Soho are the streets of China Town.
For both nationally and internationally, London has been a magnet for people searching jobs. You have to find out what is legal and what the requirements are, depending on the country of origin you are from. All employees in the UK are required to pay income tax on their earnings. If you are in official employment, tax will be deducted automatically from your wages. The majority of the workers in London have a minimum wage. This varies depending on the age. Newspapers, websites and employment agencies can help you find a job and there is also a network of Job Centres.
If you want to work in the Uk you will need a work Visa. A Visa is an official permission to travel within a country and stay in this country. There are a lot of work Visas in the UK. If you are from Europa you don’t need a Visa to go to the UK or any other country that belongs to the EU. There are different types of visas for all over the world. The transit visa, the tourist visa, the exit visa, temporary residence permits and the permanent residence permits. But the UK works with another system. The system is called the five tier visa system. It is for migrants from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to come to the UK to work, study, invest or train. This system is based on points. The more points you have, the better tier you get. In work visa applications, points are generally given according to the ability, experience and age. There is also a minimum number of points (varies for each tier) that you need before your visa requist will be successful.
The five tier visa system consists of the following:
-
Tier 1: This visa category is for 'high-value migrants' from outside the EEA and covers entry of entrepreneurs, investors, and those very few people who come under the 'exceptional talent' visa.
-
Tier 2: This category is for 'skilled workers' from outside the EEA with a job offer in the UK. It includes skilled workers who are transferred to the UK by an international company, skilled workers where there is a proven shortage in the UK, ministers of religion and sportspeople.
-
Tier 3: This category was designed for low-skilled workers filling temporary labour shortages. The Government has so far never assigned any visas under this scheme. Unfortunately, this means that you cannot apply for the Tier 3 visa scheme.
-
Tier 4: This category is for students aged over 16 from outside the EEA who wish to study in the UK. Applicants must have a place at a registered UK educational settlement before they can apply.
-
Tier 5: This category contains six sub-tiers of temporary worker including creative and sporting, charity, religious workers, and the youth mobility scheme which enables about 55,000 young people every year to work in the UK on working holidays. The visas are awarded to young people from countries that have arrangements with the UK.
Tier 5 contains six different subcategories:
-
Temporary worker – creative and sporting
-
Temporary worker - charity worker
-
Temporary worker – religious workers
-
Temporary worker – government authorised exchange
-
Temporary worker – international agreement
-
Temporary worker – youth mobility scheme
In each tier, an applicant must score a sufficient number of points to have entry to the UK. Applicants in Tier 1 and Tier 2 are awarded points for their ability, experience and age. Points may also be awarded to an applicant when there is a skills shortage which the applicant can meet. Applicants under Tier 4 (students) are awarded points for having a valid confirmation of acceptance for studies at a UK educational establishment, for having an acceptable level of ability in English and for having sufficient money to cover fees and living expenses. For the first 5 of the subcategories of tier 5 you get points for having a sponsor and a valid certificate of sponsorship. Sports people must also have a certificate from their sport's government, certifying that they are internationally established at the highest level. For the youth category of tier 5 you get points if you come from certain specified countries:
-
Australia
-
Canada
-
Japan
-
Monaco
-
New Zealand
-
Republic of Korea
-
Taiwan
They must also be between 18 and 30 years old and have at least £1,800 available cash funds.
Most migrants will require a Certificate of Sponsorship in order to be successful in their applications under the 5 Tier system. All those applying for a visa under Tiers 2, 4, and 5 (apart from youth mobility scheme applicants in Tier 5) are required to have sponsorship from a licensed sponsor. This will be an employer, for those coming to the UK to work, or an educational institution, for students.
Here is an explanation about the sponsorship requirements for each tier:
-
Tier 1: 'High-value migrants', entrepreneurs and investors do not require sponsorship but those with 'exceptional talent' must be sponsored by a 'Designated Competent Body'
-
Tier 2: All applicants under Tier 2 require a Certificate of Sponsorship from their prospective employer.
-
Tier 4: All applicants under Tier 4 must have a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies from the UK educational institution at which they intend to study. This institution is known as the 'sponsor'. The sponsor is responsible for ensuring that the student complies with the terms of his visa and must inform the UKBA (United Kingdom Border Agency) if he does not.
-
Tier 5: All applicants under Tier 5 require a Certificate of Sponsorship except those who are visiting the UK under the youth mobility scheme (or working holiday visa as it is often known).
