History
On 30 June 1886 was the grand opening of Royal Holloway. The size and status of the College continued to grow to become one of the top institutions in the country. Royal Holloways founder Thomas Holloway was born on 22 September 1800. He was a multi-millionaire. It was his wife Jane who suggested a college for women. Royal Holloway was born. Elisabeth Jesser Reid founded Bedford College in 1849. This was the first school in Great Britain for the higher education of women. During the second world war, Bedford College was evacuated to Cambrigde while Royal Holloway remained in Egham. Up to today the reputation of Royal Holloway is very good. The college have grown substantially in last 25 years.
